Sherman Oaks

Sherman Oaks

The history of Sherman Oaks now dates back over 100 years, which is pretty fantastic. Real estate in the area was actually one of the first locales around the Valley to be developed, in anticipation of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913. The L.A. Suburban Homes Company purchased 47,500 acres of the Valley in 1910, which eventually led to the village’s namesake, General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, buying 1,000 acres a year later.

Sherman later subdivided his land and sold it at a value of $780 per acre in 1927 as it continued to be developed by more real estate, and both business and residential sects. Sherman Oaks was devastated by the 1994 Northridge earthquake, and many things had to be rebuilt or redone over the past decade and a half, although the area is now back to being better than ever, new and improved.
